SoundHound is a music recognition app for Android and iOS devices that can identify songs by sound. It can also be used to find out more about the artist, album, and lyrics of a song. The app has a free ad-supported version and a paid “Plus” version without ads.
To install SoundHound on your PC, you will need to download an Android emulator such as Bluestacks or Nox Player. Once you have downloaded and installed the emulator, launch it and search for “SoundHound” in the Play Store. Install the app from there.
Top Features of SoundHound:
-Identify songs by sound
-Find out more about artists, albums, and lyrics
-Create custom stations based on your favorite artists
-See what’s popular in your area
-Share songs with friends via social media or email
-No ads (in paid “Plus” version)
How to Use SoundHound:
Assuming you have already installed the app on your device, open SoundHound and tap the orange icon in the center of the screen.
This will activate the audio recognition feature. Then, simply hold your device up to whatever source is playing music (e.g., a speaker at a party) and wait for SoundHound to identify the song. Once it does, you can view information about the song, artist, album, etc., as well as listen to a preview of the track.
If you’re using the free ad-supported version of SoundHound, you’ll hear an ad before being able to listen to the preview; however, this can be skipped after 5 seconds. Additionally, if you want to create a custom station based on a particular artist that you like (e.g., Taylor Swift), simply go to their page within SoundHound (accessible from either Search or Top Charts) and tap “+ Create Station.” From there, select how many similar artists you want included in the station before tapping “Create.” Lastly, if you’re curious about what’s popular in your area/region right now (in terms of Song ID’s), simply go to Top Charts > Local Picks > Trending Nowadays….and voila! You now have access to see what tunes are being enjoyed near you at this very moment :).
